Build your business - and your business-building intuition with foundational frameworks and practical application.

My corporate training did not prepare me for this

When I left Nike and started my own consulting business, I thought I had a massive advantage.

I had an MBA from Harvard. I’d led teams and run complex projects at one of the world’s most operationally sophisticated companies. I knew how to build systems, manage workflows, and execute strategies.

Yet… I struggled with so much overwhelm until I built right-sized business rhythms.

Because the corporate approach didn’t translate when I became a solopreneur.

The frameworks that worked when I had a team, a budget, and a clear organizational structure were absolutely worthless when I was the team, the budget was “whatever I can scrape together,” and the structure was “whatever I feel like on Monday morning.”

❌ Time blocking all of my to-dos failed because I wasn't accounting for all the invisible tasks I was doing every day (as well as emergencies, and days my creative energy ebbed and flowed).

❌ Choose “one priority project” for a deep work block? Marketing, sales, and delivery all needed to get done, and regularly, to avoid the revenue rollercoaster.

❌ “Delegate and optimize” advice was useless because I couldn't afford to hire anyone yet, and I didn't have enough volume to know what was worth optimizing.

❌ Most importantly, I had to decide what to do and when, without a manager or organizational goals providing that clarity for me.

Corporate frameworks assume you have predictable hours, clear goals and responsibilities, dedicated focus time, and someone else handling life logistics. Plus, an office IT department for tech!

That’s when I stepped back and realized:

Solo service providers are playing an entirely different game.

You're not managing one job.

You're managing five (or more):

  • Delivering to clients (your actual expertise)
  • Generating leads and closing sales
  • Building systems and processes
  • Managing finances and operations
  • Keeping your sanity intact (mostly)

Unlike an employee who gets to hand off tasks to different departments, you're wearing all five hats simultaneously.

No one teaches you how to manage all these moving parts simultaneously without losing your mind.

No wonder time blocking doesn't work. No wonder you can't "just be more consistent." No wonder you feel scattered all the time.

You're not broken. The systems you've been trying to use were never designed for your reality.

That's why I created Building Blocks.

After years of working with 200+ solo service providers through Deeper Foundations, I’ve developed an approach to planning and operations that honors both the science of capacity management and the art of human sustainability.

This isn't about making you a more efficient person or teaching you to hustle harder.

It's about building business operating rhythms that work for the messy, unpredictable, deeply human reality of running a solo business.

Here's what makes Building Blocks different:

→ You’ll start with what realistically fits in your container right now—not some aspirational version of your business where you have a team, predictable income, and consistent 40-hour work weeks.

→ You’ll learn planning rhythms for solo service-based businesses—not scaled-down corporate frameworks.

→ You’ll receive prescribed frameworks and checklists—less decision-making, more doing.

→ You’ll build simple, sustainable systems first—sophistication comes later, if ever.

→ We’ll acknowledge that consistency is hard—and lean on the built-in planning sessions and accountability group so stuff gets done.

Instead of racing toward automation, we’re thoughtfully building toward rhythms and routines—understanding how your business functions and what the right level of efficiency each step requires.

The program starts February 3.

And if you're considering the Spring cohort of Define Your Foundations, I'll apply this program's fee to the cohort fee, so you'll essentially get this program for free. Members, check your email for the 10% discount code.

“Jessica breaks down a concept that sounds simple, but that can be overwhelming, into concrete, actionable steps, and she helps connect the dots on how all these steps work together to build your business.” - Catherine LaSota

Next, I'll share the invisible workflow you're probably missing—it’s so obvious, it hurts. (And I wasn’t immune to it either.)

Over the next 2 weeks, I'll be sending a handful of extra emails about Building Blocks. Want to opt-out of these emails? Click here.
