In shaky economies, the big promises start to come out:
- “Recession-proof your business!”
- “Guaranteed leads!”
- “Unstoppable growth!”
But here’s the truth: you can’t recession-proof a business.
(And anyone who’s making that promise knows that and is probably trying to sell you some high-priced program of pre-packaged material).
You can, however, make it more resilient for an uncertain economy.
What traits make resilient businesses?
Some businesses really are more recession-resilient: trades, construction, essential health, essential retail, targeted services.
If your toilet clogs or your roof leaks, you’ll probably get it fixed quickly.
Unless you’re a huge prepper, you’ll need to continue to buy groceries.
If you run a business and have an accountant you love, you’re not going to leave them because having accurate books is an essential part of a sustainable business, particularly when cash and profitability are even more important.
What can we learn from these businesses? They:
- Serve an urgent or essential need.
- Provide a clear, transformational outcome.
- Have long-term client retention as a business model.
- Solve a pain point people will pay for even in uncertainty.
So what can we learn from these businesses, even if we don’t work in essential services?

And if you don't protect the time for outreach, don’t know who to talk with or what to say, or struggle to keep track of it all, the upcoming programming in the Deeper Business Membership is here to help.
